Cat and James share with us the beautiful story of how their love for travel led them to each other and around the world too!
The above picture of us on the beach was the beach that Johnny Depp and Kiera Knightly were stranded on in Pirates of the Caribbean…. heavenly 🙂
We met in Turkey five years ago while working a summer season for Sunsail. I was a flotilla hostess and James was my boss! We were friends for the season and got together at the end of the summer, I was only going to work abroad for one summer before settling down in an office job at home, but that all changed as soon as I met James! A few months later we travelled around Australia, and have lived and worked with each other 24/7 since!
We’ve been crewing sailing yachts for the last four years, James as Captain/Engineer and myself as Chef/First Mate. We were based in the British Virgin Islands for a while, then took a job on a private yacht, which took around Europe, up the Caribbean chain and East coast of America, a total of 19 countries in the last few years! We’re hoping to sail across the Pacific next year. We love to travel and explore as much as we can, and keep as active as possible.
James proposed on the Island of Nantucket in New England, he surprised me by booking a weekend away in a beautiful guest house, he proposed in the morning with champagne and strawberries, then got down on one knee 5 more times throughout the day, and wrote it in the sand at sunset on the beach (I said yes every time of course!)
We wanted a traditional English wedding and have been arranging everything from abroad. We researched lots of venues and sent my mum and bridesmaid to look at them all (we couldn’t get home because of work). The Orangery really stood out for them, and looking at photos online it really stood out for us too! As we’re outdoorsy people we really hope to get married outside…. but we’ll see what mother nature has in store for us! We can’t wait to get married at The Orangery, everyone’s been so helpful and it’s a dream working with such a great team, especially when organising everything over e-mail and telephone, roll on July!
Thank you both, we can’t wait to add another chapter to your exciting lives and look forward to welcoming you and your guests in July – not long to go now!!
If Cat and James’ story has got you feeling romantic, why not come along to our open day this Sunday 19 April from 10am – 4pm and see our lovely venue first hand, we would love to see you there!
